Over the course of the last month, I’ve been doing some writing for Village Living Magazine, a community-based publication specifically focused on building voices for communities. They have a rich and informative health and wellness section to their online magazine and I thought I might take a stab at advocating for the benefits of Iyengar Yoga — surprise, surprise :).

I’ve written a 4-piece series on how (and why) yoga is a great complement to summer sports and thought you might enjoy the articles. Below, please find a brief summary and a link to the original posts.

As always, I’d love to hear your take. Do you incorporate yoga into your training regime for other sports? Any general comments and/or feedback would be much appreciated. I’d even love to receive suggestions for future articles!

  • This first piece sets the stage outlining what yoga has to offer with respect to popular, summer-time sports such as golfing, biking, swimming, basketball, baseball, etc. http://bit.ly/258gUgA
  • The second piece explores how yoga can support you in developing flexibility & speed. In this article, I also highlight specific poses and provide detailed instructions to assist you in practicing at home. http://bit.ly/1YMb94
  • The third piece looks at stability and balance and the role that these qualities play in both sports and yoga. Again, I’ve included specific poses with photographs and detailed instructions. http://bit.ly/1TmbSe8
  • The final piece explores the need to vary your approach to practice, depending on the goal you wish to achieve. Here, I specifically look at improving strength, endurance, and agility, and do so with less of an emphasis on precision in each asana and more of a focus on movement. A number of short videos are included to demonstrate how to move swiftly and seamlessly through a sequence of poses. http://bit.ly/22uw4Lt
